College Campus

Like everyone, even my college life is a special chapter of my life. Its been 2 yrs since I passed out of my college - passed out in April 21st 2007 - but the memories are still fresh.

Like most of the 12th std. students, I did not know why I was opting for Engineering. But I did and chose Electronics and Communication - ECE in short. The first week of my college life was really bitter with not many friends and feeling lonely. There was a point of time, when I also wanted to go back to my hometown and do Engg from a college near my home. But that was not possible. Well, I did my Engg. from Amrita School of Engg., Ettimadai (near Coimbatore). Its a well known college. After a few weeks I got settled and got adjusted to the place.

In this blog, I would like to talk about the campus from where I passed out. The campus was simply superb. One of the best campuses in India I must say. Especially the long road from the AIMS canteen till the entrance with those yellow flowers covering half of the road from both sides. God. It was heaven. And the AITEC canteen as we used to call it (don't know what do they call it now) was like a big hut kind of a place surrounded by small huts. Beleive me this canteen was the best place for all the couples of our college. The food in the canteen was better than the mess food. But then since we were not earning, we could not spend much. Another place is the Amriteshwari hall which is the main Auditorium of the college. It was on the 1st floor of the main building. All the events used to take place there. Somehow, we used to feel good entering the hall. Me and my friend Laxmi used to go for all Spicmacay events even if we had any exams coming up the next day. Above that, there was another auditorium called the Sudhamani hall and drawing halls on the 3rd floorWe were just crazy. The view from the drawing halls was a wonderful one. Could see the railway track and trains. Used to feel that those were toy trains. Very tiny from that point of view. The other spot is the AIMS canteen which was like a normal canteen but most of the final year, I used to have food from this canteen and it was a place to hang out with friends. The Lakshmi statue in front of the college building was the best piece of art in our college. Even though the college was like 3 - 4 kms away from the highway, anybody passing through the highway could spot the college by seeing the white statue. The guest house - Wow. I wish I could have that all for myself. This is where all the corporate delegates were made to stay if they came for placements. The college Ground - haven't forgotten the football matches that the guys used to play there. In the college building - the main one - there was a prayer hall on the top floor. We used to visit that place very often. A very peaceful place. It was called the meditation hall where they used to play Amma's songs. At night time, when you just come out of the meditation hall and have a look at the college from that point - beleive me - that would be the most beautiful view you would have ever had. Its dark with white lights here and there. And those green lawns sparking. Very calm. Full of breeze. And a beautiful sight. Wish I had captured those moments. That was my favorite spot in the college. And finally - the hostels. In the final year, I got a room, facing the outer part of the campus. The scenery was really beautiful especially in the early mornings with the fog covering the mountains. Awesome I must say. And the classrooms - pretty much ordinary ones but unforgettable ones, due to the bonds that were formed with the other classmates. I am gonna talk about these bonds - the unforgettable ones in my next blog. Watch out for it.

MAD Phase of my Life Hi, my journey with MAD started about 8 months ago with tons of excitement and a pinch of nervousness. I was excited because this was the first time I was given the opportunity to do something that I always wanted to do in the last 10 years!!! I was nervous because I had to do my best in this journey and it was not about my teaching but it was about the kids' learning. I realized that I had to teach just 5 boys and I even had a co-teacher. The question that immediately popped into my mind – Isn’t a single teacher sufficient to teach 5 kids? But the kids proved me wrong right on my 1st day as they were most notorious kids I had ever come across!!! I am highly elated that I got to teach the 5 gems of YMCA – PRATHMESH, SHUBHAM, ADESH, ROHIT and RITESH – who were mischievous and at the same time competitive against each other. Throughout the year I strived to bring out the best in these kids but I realized that they actually brought out the best in me. Th...
MY TRAVEL JOURNAL Why I should start scripting my Travel Experiences and why I fell in love with Traveling!!! It is a Sunday evening and I am just sitting in my bedroom with my laptop. I just read a couple of blogs written by a friend of mine who is a hardcore traveler. I happened to read a few more blogs written by a solo woman traveler who is connected to my friend through a blog conference. Traveling has become quite prominent these days with many youngsters realizing that they live not just to earn and save some money but also to experience varied things in life. Traveling is one such activity which provides you maximum varied experiences. I used to hate traveling as a kid due to motion sickness. This made me get switched off from the external world and I forced myself to sleep rather than get immersed in the beauty that the nature had to offer me. I still have this problem (especially while traveling to hillstations or while traveling by a car) but sometimes, I forget i...
